Rohr hasn’t done badly – Okpala

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala, says Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has not done badly since the Franco-German took over the position in 2016.
Okpala was assistant coach to late coach, Stephen Keshi, who led the country to their third continental trophy in 2013 in South Africa, after a 19-year wait.
Rohr was handed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday and has been mandated to help Nigeria win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next year.
But despite the confidence placed on the tactician by the Nigeria Football Federation, Okpala insists his performance has not done better than previous coaches of the team.
“I don’t think he has done badly but he has not done extremely well,” he told The PUNCH.
“If you’ve watched the national team play recently, you will know that he is a good coach but all I want him to do henceforth is to take more responsibility as a coach, for instance, if the team fails, he should take responsibility, but every time he dodges from his responsibility.
“For example, when we went to the World Cup in Russia, at a point he thought he was not going to do well. Then he changed the narrative to tell us that he was going with a young team, which is not an excuse because the French team that won the World Cup are younger than ours.
“If you ask me if Rohr has done badly, the answer is no, he has tried, his performance have not been too bad,” he added.
